Work Life 2026

Age discrimination

Unfortunately, most dialogues and some analyses we have conducted show that age discrimination is not only widespread and massive, but we also see an increase in this unfortunate development.

We are strong advocates for candidates being selected based on a match between the company’s needs, job tasks—in short, whether a candidate can succeed in a work role, then you are closer to an actual match. And not make a focus where candidates are filtered out due to either their young or especially their older age. It is simply wrong, unlawful, and unfortunate for companies, who thus in most situations do not hire the best-matched candidate with the best amount of matching talent—competencies, knowledge, skills, and experience.
Analyses also show that we humans absorb messages much more strongly through something we listen to, and that songs have this strength. So here are two slightly informative songs around the topic.

So, think about it next time why you get presented with or choose a particular candidate. This question should ideally be argued and assessed clearly in relation to other current candidates. And remember, when selecting, you typically choose between several—if you only have one candidate, it is not a selection, it is simply a choice. We hope our songs can bring a little focus to this topic.
Analyses conducted in 2025 and 2026 show some unfortunate results. Both times we have conducted an analysis where we asked 300 (And 273 and 288 sent back their responses) professional HR people about their opinion on the following questions, and here you can see the results.

Results from analyses from 2025 and 2026

Do you think that the person who carries out a selection or screening in your HR team is thoroughly trained in the task, in working with selection? Answer: Only 18% thought this was not the case. So 82% under 100%.

When candidates are presented; are candidates over 55 years old presented? Answer: Only 12% said yes. So 88% under 100%.

Is a candidate’s age part of the selection? Does a candidate’s age matter if the candidate is over 50 years old? Answer: 21% answered no. 79% answered yes.

Which age group do you think is not suitable to work in your company, rating from 1 to 10. 10 is most suitable. 1 is less suitable.

  • 18 to 20 years – Resultat in: 4
  • 21 to 40 years – Resultat in: 7
  • 41 to 50 years – Resultat in: 8
  • 51 to 55 years – Resultat in: 5
  • 56 to 65 years – Resultat in: 2

What reasons were cited in the analysis?

Direct quotes from the responses:

“The people responsible for the initial selection at our company are quite young and typically do not understand the value of a candidate having many years of experience.”

“Some are even afraid of meeting older candidates, as they likely know less about what a candidate with extensive professional experience can do, and become nervous about asking questions.”

“At our company, there is an unwritten notion that those we hire should be between 20 and 40 years old.”

“Our managers would prefer employees they can ‘manage’ more easily, and they are afraid of experienced staff.

Not many have prepared themselves for the job interview, and in fact, the managers attending job interviews have often not prepared themselves either, 9 out of 10 did not read the CV before the job interview.”

“The vast majority do not know at all what they want, and very often it comes down to what we loosely refer to as a ‘personal click’ or personality. But when we ask what they are looking for, some also say there needs to be chemistry. Yet again, many do not know what that actually entails.”

“At our company, recruitment is carried out largely on assumptions.

“At our company, many of our employees come and go quickly, so we do not spend much time on this task.”

“Older employees often have significantly more knowledge than we do, which frequently requires us to change things we have created ourselves.”

Lyric

Verse 1
Years sit quietly in a name,
Life moves forward all the same.
Calm is carried in every move,
From all that time has helped to prove.

Bridge 1
No need for noise, no need to show,
Just living what we come to know.

Chorus 1
The years bring colour into what is seen,
A quieter strength in what has been.
The long road turns the hard to grace,
And leaves a calm in every place.

Verse 2
Days unfold and come and go,
With deeper meaning starting to show.
Experience sharpens what is known,
And clearer judgement starts to grow.

Bridge 2
No rush to speak, no need to race,
Some understanding finds its place.

Chorus 2
The years bring colour into what is seen,
A quieter strength in what has been.
The long road turns the hard to grace,
And leaves a calm in every place.

Verse 3
The world is seen from many sides,
Where change appears and never hides.
What others miss becomes more clear,
Through quiet focus gathered here.

Verse 4
A steady mind, a focused view,
Has learned what truly matters to do.
Not less, not more, but something wide,
A deeper way to stand beside.

Bridge 3
The quiet truth does not shout out,
It grows in time and works things out.

Chorus 3
The years bring colour into what is seen,
A quieter strength in what has been.
The long road turns the hard to grace,
And leaves a calm in every place.

Verse 5
In every room a calm is shown,
A steady voice, a deeper tone.
Experience still meets what is need,
And active hands still plant the seed.
Engaged in work, in life, in care,
With value growing everywhere.

Verse 6
Each line of time upon the face,
Is not a loss, but earned grace.
A record of what life has shown,
Of things once learned and fully known.

Bridge 4
No higher place, no lower stand,
Just different ways to understand.

Chorus 4
The years bring colour into what is seen,
A quieter strength in what has been.
The long road turns the hard to grace,
And leaves a calm in every place.

Verse 7
So let the road keep moving on,
With every story lived and gone.
The longer path still leads the way,
With something steady left to say.

Lyric

Verse 1
Life moves forward, day by day,
With deeper meaning on the way.
Experience builds in every part,
A quiet strength inside the heart.

Bridge 1
No need to rush, no need to prove,
Just what is lived in every move.

Chorus 1
The years bring depth into what is known,
A steady light in what is shown.
The long road turns the hard to grace,
And leaves a calm in every place.

Verse 2
The fast world moves in shifting sound,
But solid ground is still found.
What once felt small now feels more clear,
With sharper focus year by year.

Bridge 2
No noise required to understand,
Just time that shapes a steady hand.

Chorus 2
The years bring depth into what is known,
A steady light in what is shown.
The long road turns the hard to grace,
And leaves a calm in every place.

Verse 3
The world is read with careful eyes,
That notice more than quick replies.
Small truths appear in daily light,
And make the simple feel more right.

Verse 4
A thoughtful mind, a patient view,
Sees what is real and what is true.
Not less, not more, but something wide,
A stronger way to stand beside.

Bridge 3
What time has shaped will not decline,
It only grows with passing time.

Chorus 3
The years bring depth into what is known,
A steady light in what is shown.
The long road turns the hard to grace,
And leaves a calm in every place.

Verse 5
In every space a voice is there,
That brings more weight and shows more care.
Still active, still engaged each day,
Still shaping how the world can stay.

Verse 6
Each line of time becomes a sign,
Of effort built across the line.
Not fading out, but standing strong,
Where lived experience belongs.

Bridge 4
No higher place, no lower ground,
Just deeper value being found.

Chorus 4
The years bring depth into what is known,
A steady light in what is shown.
The long road turns the hard to grace,
And leaves a calm in every place.

Verse 7
So let the road keep rolling on,
With every here and every gone.
The story builds in what is done,
And keeps on moving, one by one.

Notes

The idea of creating music began several years ago when we were asked to produce a number of introductory pieces for a company that needed music to present its different departments as part of a virtual online presentation.
A team was assembled for the project, and we have continued to collaborate virtually ever since. Our music, songs, and the full production behind each track are created through cooperation across several countries. We find it exciting to write songs and produce music, and over the years this work has grown into many hundreds of compositions.
The music is the result of cross-border collaboration. Our singers come from the Philippines, Singapore, Copenhagen, and the United Kingdom, while our sound engineer is based in Vietnam, alongside musicians from several other parts of the world.
We hope the music brings happiness. Communication can take many forms, and much can be expressed through song lyrics. Above all, it is something we truly enjoy creating.

We write about many different subjects. However, it is important to emphasise that none of our content is intended to promote any political or religious viewpoint. We remain entirely neutral and simply describe situations as we experience and observe them.
